A Collector-Car Transport and Handoff Checklist
Clear condition records, equipment instructions and custody checkpoints reduce ambiguity when a special vehicle changes hands.
Choose service for the vehicle
Discuss clearance, width, weight, immobilization, enclosed transport, lift-gate needs and non-running status before booking. Confirm carrier authority, insurance and subcontracting arrangements directly.
Rare or highly modified cars may require model-specific loading knowledge and written instructions.
Create a pickup baseline
Photograph every panel, glass, wheel, underside areas where accessible, interior, mileage and fuel level in good light. Record keys, documents, covers, tools and loose accessories separately.
Both parties should review the bill of lading and annotate existing damage rather than relying on generic diagrams.
Prepare without creating risk
Follow carrier guidance on alarms, battery, fuel and removable components. Secure loose items and disclose leaks, starting procedures and mechanical limitations.
Do not improvise tie-down points or loading methods; the carrier remains responsible for safe professional handling.
Inspect before accepting delivery
Compare the vehicle with pickup records before signing without exception. Photograph any discrepancy immediately and follow the carrier's claim procedure and deadlines.
Save tracking, communications and signed documents with the vehicle history file.
