Photographing a Watch for Meaningful Condition Review

Diffuse light can show surface condition without harsh reflections hiding marks. Include a color-neutral reference and avoid filters, heavy sharpening or edits that change apparent texture.

Photograph before cleaning when debris or residue may help explain condition, then add a second set if careful cleaning is appropriate.

Capture the dial straight on, each case side, lugs, bezel, crystal, crown, caseback, clasp and bracelet from both sides. Add close views of material observations and a wider view that preserves orientation.

Use a scale for dents or damage when practical, and retain original image files with dates.

Short video can document winding, setting, date change and complication operation when safe and consistent with manufacturer guidance. Photograph box, papers, tags, links and service records separately.

Do not display sensitive serial or personal information publicly; provide controlled access where verification requires it.

Images cannot establish internal condition, water resistance, authenticity or future performance. Reflections and camera processing can also distort finish and color.
